Essay #1
For my Essay I am going
to use the second thesis about how Bartleby’s ghostly presence in the story is
a result of how the narrator’s mind is breaking down. In truth Bartleby does
not really exist and is not an actual scrivener. Bartleby thought is a representation
of the how the narrator wishes to repress in order to become a more effective
worker.
I will talk about how
the ghostly presence of Bartleby has begun to affect the narrator in a negative
way and is slowly eating away at his mental state. In fact Bartleby does not
really exist but instead the scrivener is actually an illusion of how the
narrator wishes to be a better worker in his workplace which led his mind to
create a false apparition.
In the Essay I will speak about how the mental state of the narrator is at the beginning of the story and how it changed at the end of the story. Along with this, how the narrator seems to have a breakdown because he is trying to become someone he is not and creates a false ghostly presence in order to keep him going to become his ideal self.
